Area Attractions
The Western North Carolina Mountains offer a
seemingly unlimited amount of attractions and
things to do. Piper Ridge’s location in Lenoir
NC means that we are just a short drive from
some of the most popular activities in the area.
Lenoir is known as where the High Country begins
for good reason.
Lenoir
has a variety of activities to keep you
entertained within a very short distance to
Piper Ridge. The Parks and Recreation department
offers the T.H. Broyhill Walking Park, a 20 acre
nature preserve that has a paved walking loop
which winds around a beautiful lake surrounded
by flowers and trees. We also enjoy the Lenoir
Greenway, a 7.2 mile system of paved trails that
allow for walking, biking, jogging, skating, and
more on 25 beautiful acres.
Just up the mountain from Lenoir you’ll find
many things to do in Boone NC. Boone is known as “the Heart of the
High Country” and recently gained nationwide
recognition when the Appalachian State
Mountaineers won their third consecutive
National Championship. If you’re in the area
during football season, you should definitely
try to catch an ASU game at Kidd-Brewer stadium.
Even though it is a relatively small school when
compared to the likes of UNC or NC State, the
excitement and tenacity of the fans and the
talent of the Mountaineer team is unparalleled
by most North Carolina football programs.
The
North Carolina Mountains provide an endless
variety of outdoor activities to keep you
entertained. Whether your interest is hiking,
fishing, rafting and kayaking, rock climbing, or
skiing, this area has something to offer
everyone. About 300 miles of the world-famous
Appalachian Trail runs through Western North
Carolina, offering residents and visitors some
of the best hiking opportunities in the nation,
and people come from all over to enjoy the
multitude of trout streams in the Blue Ridge and
Appalachian Mountains. If you’re interested in
skiing or snowboarding, Boone and Banner Elk
offer four of the southeast’s best ski slopes;
Appalachian Ski Mountain, Ski Hawksnest, Ski
Beech, and Sugar Mountain Resort.
