NC is located in Caldwell County and acts as the
county seat. According to the US census the
estimated population in July 2006 was 18,018.
Lenoir, North Carolina is located at the
foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains which
allows for its residents and visitors to enjoy
many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking,
rock climbing and much more. The weather in
Lenoir allows for many outdoor activities to
take place comfortably because of its changing
temperatures from season to season. In the
summer the temperature averages in the 80’s.
During the winter months it is quite common for
temperatures to be in the 40’s.
One of the main industries in Lenoir NC is the
furniture business. Broyhill, one of the largest
furniture companies in the country, Bernhardt
and Fairfield have their headquarters in Lenoir.
The furniture companies, particularly Broyhill
is known as the largest employer for this area.
Google recently built a large data center in
Lenoir and has announced plans to build a
second. The presence of one of the nation’s
largest corporations in Lenoir is sure to create
large numbers of new jobs and provide a boost to
the area’s economy. Lenoir was also just
named one of only 10 "All-American Cities" for
2008 by the National Civic League. This
award is given to 10 cities each year in
recognition of outstanding civic achievements.
This is just one more example of why our city is
such a great place to live!
There
are several attractions and festivals in Lenoir
NC that residents and visitors like to enjoy
every year. The annual Blackberry Festival
occurs every July and is a festival for the
whole family to enjoy. This festival is
obviously based around fresh blackberries with a
blackberry eating contest, blackberry princess
contest, arts and crafts, food, traditional
music and many other activities. The Annual
Heritage Day and Wood Kiln Opening happens in
June and attracts visitors from the surrounding
areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This festival
lets visitors enjoy live mountain music from
‘The Dollar Bothers’ and the ‘Roan Mountain
Hilltoppers.’ There are numerous vendors
including furniture, pottery, carvings and many
other local arts and crafts. Each September
Caldwell County plays host to the annual Bridge
to Bridge bike race. Starting in downtown
Lenoir, it follows back roads and highways all
the way to the swinging bridge at Grandfather
Mountain. Some describe the ride as “100 miles
of pure hill”. In addition to these festivals there are
many more that take place in Lenoir every year
that allow a fun filled family day enjoying the
culture and heritage of this Blue Ridge
foothills town.
